Building On the FS12, is it simple enough for someone who has never built a boat? The FS12 is easy to build; if you can read a tape, instructions and blueprints you can build this boat.
Is it possible to put an inboard diesel and save on ballast and use a smaller sail? The Flyaway is a canoe type sail boat. It is a good idea to install an inboard motor.
Can the FS10 be used for a row boat or with electric motor for trout fishing? Yes, you can row or use an electric or gas motor. I had a 3 hp on mine and it worked great.
How much does a Martha Jane cost to build? Estimating around $8000.00. Depending on what material you use.
What is the approx. weight of the Big Dory? About 300 lbs.
Building Materials Can I build a boat from standard plywood? Yes, but good quality marine plywood is better. Marine plywood will last a lot longer and be easier to finish.
Epoxy What does an epoxy kit include? All Epoxy kits include, epoxy, fiberglass cloth, glue, mixing cups, filler, gloves, pumps, stir sticks, dust masks and instructions.
Misc On the Fs12, can you use an electric motor? Yes you can.
I am interested in a Pirogue, and I would like to transport it with my small ford ranger. Is there a rack I could build? Yes, a simple rack can be made or you can buy one for your pickup.
Plans What is included in the plans? Plans include blue prints, instruction manual and a how to build CSB boats. Certain boats have extra info sent along. Some has less.
What does the Idaho come with? The Idaho comes with 3 sets of Blueprints, one inch equals one foot (imperial dimensions) with step by step instructions (with pictures of the building process). Yes, they are detailed.
What does a Martha Jane come with? The Martha Jane comes with blueprints, instruction manual, mast and spar, and how to build CSB. Martha Jane does not come with a material list, Phil Bolger thinks that it is better for the builder to do it himself.
What does the Big Dory come with? The Big Dory comes with blue prints and a how to build CSB. It does not comes with instructions. The Dory is very easy to build. The sides are laid out and drawn using station lines and marking points on its curves.
The Micro Trawler plans are for a 14' boat but you have a picture of an 18'. Can your plans be stretched like that? Can it be stretched to 20'? Yes it can be, when you lay the boat out to specs, you add the extra length and you use battens to extend it to how much length you want to add. It should be added at midship.
Sails How long does it take to get a sail? Sails take about 6 weeks depending on the time of year. If you order in the spring or early summer it will take longer.
Can I get colored sails? Yes
Shipping Is shipping included in the price? Shipping is included in the USA or Canada and is Air mail. If you would like faster mail service, there will be a extra shipping charge.
